• Running for Justice

On Saturday, June 5th, Native Americans for Community Action (NACA) is holding its 27th annual Sacred Mountain Prayer run. A volunteer supporter of the Save the Peaks Coalition has paid the entry fee and will participate in this run to personally honor the San Francisco Peaks and help fundraise for the most recent lawsuit to stop the use of reclaimed sewer water to make fake snow on this sacred mountain.

Oral arguments for this case are scheduled in Phoenix, Arizona on July 16th. A group of dedicated volunteers are organizing a dinner reception to welcome supporters, a morning prayer vigil, and march and rally to coincide with this court date. We need money for food, water, art supplies and materials, medical supplies advertising, rental fees (portable restroom, tables, chairs, etc.).

You can support our volunteer efforts by sponsoring the runner as they honor the Peaks! Any amount (small or large) that you would like to contribute will be gratefully accepted and will help offset costs incurred for the events planned for July 15th and 16th. You can make a donation with debit or credit card via PayPay by using the paypal module on the right sidebar. For more information about the current case against Snowbowl and the US Forest Service please see www.savethepeaks.org.

If you would like to make a donation by check, please contact us with a donation amount and we will send you the name and address to send the check.

  • What a Great Ride & Experience

A special thanks goes out to those who helped us raise $300 for roofing supplies to fix the Begay family hogan. We were not able to do a lot of repair work we expected to do while we were there due to a major snowstorm on the day of our arrival, but we were able to help them shovel out and herd sheep. The supplies are now up on the land and further supporters are going to help them with the repairs. Kyle Boggs wrote a great article about our trip, you can read all about it here.

What: Solstice Bike Ride for Black Mesa

    When: December 19th - December 28th, 2009

Where: From Flagstaff to Big Mountain [map]

Why: To help the resident of Big Mountain

Sad you missed the caravan to Black Mesa? Like riding bikes? Feeling adventurous? Join The NO COAL Pedalers, a pedal-powered caravan up to the Big Mountain region of Black Mesa, where we will be volunteering our labor and as many resources as we can bring, assuring a safe winter for those communities resisting relocation efforts by the US government on behalf of the interests of the Peabody Coal Company.

This project couldn’t be possible without the help and support of the Black Mesa Indigenous Support, who organize a caravan of work-crews to Black Mesa every year. “By assisting with direct, on-land projects you are helping families stay on their ancestral homelands in resistance to an illegal occupation.”
